Let’s get you talking.
Whisper 0.3.1 supports Apple silicon Macs running macOS 12 or later. Most setup issues come down to macOS permissions or an interrupted first model download.
Install Whisper
- Download the DMG and open it.
- Drag Whisper into Applications.
- Launch Whisper and follow the setup steps for Microphone and Accessibility access.
- Allow the first speech models to finish downloading before dictating.
Whisper copies text but does not paste it
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and enable Whisper. Reopen the app after changing the permission.
Dictation does not start
Check Microphone access in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. Then open Whisper Settings and confirm your global shortcut is not already used by another app.
A model download failed
Open Whisper Settings → Speech and choose Download again. Keep the app open and your Mac online until the initial download completes. Later use works locally.
